Welcome to AWS GetIT!
Welcome to the AWS GetIT program! This exciting program is designed for big thinkers and creative students like you. It gives you an opportunity to learn a wide variety of new and exciting technology, from user interface design to computing in the cloud.
You will also get to explore some cool tech jobs in various career fields, such as in the gaming or space engineering industries. You will develop skills in design thinking and apply study skills to your daily life.
The most important part of the AWS GetIT program is for you to learn new concepts and skills to help solve real-world problems. You will find out how technology can help make the world a better place and improve the quality of life for others.

What Do I Teach?
So many different things today can be considered technology. Imagine just how much more advanced technology would be today and how many more cool applications and services we’d have if we had more people from all walks of life working in the technology industry. The AWS GetIT program is here to get you to think about how you could be one of those people! Are you ready? Let’s begin!
MODULE 1
Put on your design thinking cap
You’re familiar with the different apps on your mobile devices. Have you ever wondered how apps are created? At AWS, we like to move fast. We come up with ideas, test them quickly, and make changes. We use the results to see whether we need to improve the idea or start again with a new one. Just like with any technology tools, creating an app takes a collaborative team, special technical skills, and lots of knowledge of the users. The process that you can use to build, test, and quickly update your ideas is called design thinking. In today’s class, we cover the phases of the design thinking process and brainstorming strategies to generate ideas.
MODULE 3
Race to the stars: An AI/ML knowledge check
In a little over 120 years, humankind has gone from the horse and buggy to automobiles to air travel to space flight. Transportation has evolved as technology changes. Just think where it will go in the next 120 years! Sometime in the future, you might find yourself among the stars. You might be traveling with a companion to get from one place to another, relying on your navigation computer. It might be another planet, or it might be a human-designed base. Can you imagine what that would be like?
MODULE 2
Emerging Technologies;
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
The concept of artificial intelligence (AI) as an academic discipline started in the 1950s. Researchers and developers were interested in creating computer systems that could imitate human intelligence to perform tasks. Within the topic of artificial intelligence are different subfields like machine learning and deep learning. Machine learning has been growing as a field in recent years. Machine learning is building computer systems that can learn and actually improve their performance based on data that is fed to the system. What does that process look like? How does the machine learn?
MODULE 4
Teamwork skills: Communicating and problem solving
Finally, when creating your team, consider diversity when reaching out to others. Diversity can mean a lot of different things. The main benefit it will provide you is the ability to look at your app design through different viewpoints and perspectives. The following is a list of the benefits of incorporating a diverse point of view. Think about the benefits that diversity can bring to your team. Teammates from other countries and cultures who speak different languages can help you with outreach to specific communities and can help with specialized versions of your app. They can also help you avoid any pitfalls or problems with your app that you might not foresee based on your own limited experience.

MODULE 6
Feedback
It’s the moment of truth. Your first draft of your app is done. Now, it’s time to get some feedback, look at recommendations, and finalize your app design. Remember, the purpose of feedback is to make your idea better. Others might point out a potential issue that your team missed, or they might have questions about why you designed something a certain way. Because of the feedback that you receive, you might have to defend or explain a design choice, and that’s OK. Use feedback as an opportunity to learn more about your own design.
Tech Cards
The following tech cards teach you more about the different features that you can include in your app design.
